Coastal flooding- extreme weather conditions combined with high tides can cause sea levels to rise above normal, force sea water to the land and cause coastal flooding.

River flooding- heavy rain causes a river to burst its banks and flood the surrounding areas.

Groundwater flooding- prolonged rainfall causes water levels underneath the ground to rise above the surface.

Surface water flooding- rainwater does not drain away through the normal drainage systems or soak into the ground, but lies on or flows over the ground instead.

Sewer flooding- the sewer's capacity is reached and sewage begins to overflow.

Flash flooding- fast-moving and unexpected flooding.
